ABOUT THE PROJECT
We are focused on
The MN Love Letter Project is a senior thesis project by University of Minnesota Graphic Design student, Leah Palmquist. A Minnesota native, Leah has lived in Minneapolis and its suburbs for most of her 22 years. However, she has also called both Tampa, FL and New York City home at some point during her college years. It was during these periods of time that she found her inspiration for the MN Love Letter Project. While away from home she was inevitably asked the question, "Where are you from?" multiple times and upon responding, "Minneapolis," she received a lot of similar responses all centering around the idea of "Oh. Where is that again?" or "There's cities in Minnesota?" This lead her to believe that those outside of Minnesota and the Midwest have a very skewed view of Minnesota and what the Minnesota Identity really is. Thus in order to change this single story narrative of Minnesota, the MN Love Letter Project was born.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Leah Palmquist is a current Graphic Design student at the University
of Minnesota-Twin Cities graduating with her BFA in Graphic Design
in December 2015.
From the time she was 2 years old, Leah’s parents always knew she
would be in a creative field –mostly because when they gave her glitter
she didn’t try to put it up her nose. 20 years later, Leah is a designer
with a passion for branding and great typography. When she manages to
pull herself away from her computer, you can find her baking banana bread
with her best friend or when she’s trying to be healthy, attending the
occasional yoga class.
